Kyoyei Opens New Scrap Yard with Private Quay in Hyogo, Japan

Kobe headed ferrous scrap dealer, Kyoyei opened a new yard in Kako City of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. This is Kyoyei’s first yard with a private quay which enables stable ferrous scrap supply to domestic electric furnaces and integrated steels. The firm eyes future transfer of existent Kakogawa plant in Kakogawa City, Hyogo to the new yard.

The new yard is approximately 14,500 square meters to deal mainly heavy scrap for domestic integrated steel makers and electric furnace steel makers at around 1,500-1,600 tonnes per month. The private quay is 126 meters deep and 499 ships are able to be docked. Kyoyei can export ferrous scrap to East Asia when domestic scrap supply becomes loose.

Kyoyei also widened the existent yard in Kobe, Hyogo by about 2,600 square meters. The firm aims to increase ferrous scrap deals to 180,000 tonnes per month or 2 million tonnes per year by utilizing Kyoyei’s own yards and other quays in Aichi, Shizuoka and Ishikawa Prefectures.

Kyoyei started the business in 1927 as a dealer and processor of ferrous scrap. The firm also covers steel product processing business at Mizushima plant in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. The firm supplies ferrous scrap to domestic steel makers around Tokyo, Aichi, Osaka and Kyusyu while exports scrap to East Asia. In 2009 the annual revenue was approximately 37 billion yen and the dealing volume totaled about 1.46 million tonnes.
