METI Starts Law Review to Progress Rare Metal Recycling System

Mr. Ikuro Sugawara, director general of Industrial Science & Technology Policy & Environment Bureau, revealed Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI) aims to start review of Japanese Waste Disposal & Public Cleansing Law in cooperation with Ministry of Environment (MOE). The law regulates transportation of recyclable wastes between different prefectures and affects establishment of rare metal recycling system based on used digital mobiles. The review dialogue may start between concerned directors of METI and MOE.

Mr. Sugawara said METI would ask interests in nonferrous metal industry for neck points of the law against rare metal recycling system, though the ministry doesn’t intend to integrate related several laws.
