Furukawa to Expand Breaker and Drill Sales at Overseas

Furukawa plans to expand sales of construction and mining machineries at overseas. In China, the firm will start assembly of breakers applied to 20t class excavators at an existent subsidiary in Shanghai during October-March. The firm will set distributors in every province to cultivate local market more aggressively. The firm also eyes to enhance sales of blast hole drills in South America, such as top hammer drills used in mines.

Furukawa plans to start breaker assembly at Furukawa Rock Drill (Shanghai), the sales subsidiary in China. Furukawa will send main parts from Japan and assemble breakers with other components procured from local suppliers. Productive cost is expected to lower by 10-20% compared with breakers produced in Takasaki plant, Gunma, Japan and exported to China.

Furukawa Rock Drill (Shanghai) will increase the employee number to 40 within this year from 20 at the end of September 2009 in order to start the assembly. At the same time, Furukawa aims to set distributors in every province of China to strengthen sales network in the country where infrastructures are actively constructed.

Furukawa also cultivates South American market. The firm aims to expand sales of top hammer drills and down-the-hole-drills in Brazil and Chile through cooperation with Furukawa Rock Drill USA’s new branch office established in Panama last year. The sales targets are middle and small size mines where Furukawa’s blast hole drills can be utilized fully.
