Japan Electric Cable Shipment Plus for Cars and Appliances, Minus for Constructions

Japanese domestic shipment of electric wire and cable was quickly estimated at 59,700 tonnes of copper in July, increasing by 2.9% from a year earlier, according to a survey on approximately 130 makers those who belong to Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association.

The shipment represented year-on-year increase for 8 straight months for two demand fields of automobiles and electric machines & appliances. Market demand is currently steady for automotive wiring harness, magnet wire and wires for electric appliances in response to output recovery at automobile and appliance makers.

Meanwhile, the shipment for domestic construction market and related wholesalers represented year-to-year decrease for 22 straight months and below 25,000 tonnes for 19 continuous months. Japanese construction market maintains stagnant.

Actual shipment of optical fiber products was 3.01 million kilometers of fiber core (kmf) in June, decreasing by 8.3% from a year earlier. The shipment represented first year-on-year decline in late 13 months but the volume was as high as above 3 million kmf per month. The shipment decreased by 7.2% to 2.46 million kmf for export and lowered by 13% to 554,514 kmf for domestic market.
