JFE Steel Gains MLIT Approval for Thin TMCP Plate

JFE Steel announced on Tuesday the firms got approval of Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for thermo-mechanical control process plate steel, HBL 385B-L, which was first approval for TMCP steel with 550 newton per square millimeter tensile strength and more than 12 mm thick. The firm widened the thickness range to 12-100 millimeters from 19-100 millimeters of HBL 385. The firm expects HBL 385B-L is used for build up H-beam and T-beam. The firm got 200 tonnes order for HBL 385 series, of which 10 tonnes of HBL 385B-L was already shipped.

JFE Steel got approval of the Minister in 2002 for HBL 385, which has more than 550 newton per square mm tensile strength. The firm developed the market appealing the savings when the new product can reduce the plate thickness by around 15% compared with traditional TMCP of HBL325 with 490 newton strength. The new grade of steel is used for high rise building and other large scale building due to the high strength, quake resistance and welding property.
