Shaped Steel Makers Continue Output Adjustment in September, Osaka

Shaped steel makers around Osaka continue output adjustment in September by 30-40% compared with the usual year level. Shape steel demand maintains low mainly from building constructions. The makers try to balance the supply volume with the actual demand and supports the improvement of the market price.

Sakai Works of Osaka Steel seems to have reduced production of angle and channel by over 40% in August against usual months due to scheduled maintenance. The firm plans to keep the output level in September when the demand is unlikely to recover soon.

Himeji Works of JFE Bars & Shapes has downshifted in the steel making plant and 2 rolling plants since March 2010. The works’ output seems to have decreased by above 40% in August from ordinary months. The production is likely to decrease more in September due to scheduled maintenance from September 23 to October 3.

Yamato Steel reduced H-beam output by above 30% in August from usual months. The firm plans 30-40% lower production in September. Godo Steel’s H-beam, angle and channel steel production seems to have decreased by 33% to 10,000 tonnes in August from usual months. Godo Steel would also keep the same output level in September.

Wakayama Works of Sumikin Steel seems to have decreased H-beam output by 50% in August from usual months due to scheduled repair. The production is expected to recover in September slightly while the works continues the output adjustment by 40%.
