Tatsuta Considers Capacity Expansion for EMI Shielding Film

Osaka based Tatsuta Electric Wire & Cable examines output capacity expansion for EMI (electro magnetic interference) shielding film, which is used inside cellular phones and smartphones. The firm may double the output capacity at Kyoto plant to 320,000 square meters per month from present 160,000 square meters by introduction of a new line with 400 million yen investment until mid 2011. Tatsuta’s total output capacity is expected to increase by 50% to 480,000 square meters per month including Osaka plant.

EMI shielding film is stuck on flexible printed circuit board (FPC) in order to prevent EMI noise. Tatsuta’s EMI shielding film plant in Kyoto started commercial shipment in April 2009. The floor space is 3,700 square meters.

The output capacity is 160,000 square meters per month, as much as Osaka plant, while Tatsuta had planned to regard Kyoto plant as a mass production base. However, actually, both Kyoto and Osaka plants are in full operations at present thanks to the favorable demand for export and rapid shipment growth for smartphones.

Kyoto plant had prepared floor space for future capacity expansion. Tatsuta examines to add a new productive line to existent one. Mr. Masanobu Kimura, president of Tatsuta said the firm would start the new productive line until mid 2010 when the production enters yearly peak for Christmas and yearend sales.
