Mitsui Corp Integrates Domestic and Overseas Steel Trade into Subsidiary

Mitsui Corporation’s steel division announced on Wednesday the division transferred trade and overseas businesses for automobile, infrastructure, construction and shipbuilding to Mitsui Bussan Steel (MBS), the 100% subsidiary of Mitsui Corp. Mitsui Corp integrates domestic sales and international trade of steel products into MBS and transfers management planning function for domestic sales to MBS in order to enhance consumer services and streamline management. Along the reorganization, a new division is established in MBS for automotive steel sales.

Mitsui Corp’s steel division remains international trade business for steel tube and steel plate applied to energy industry, semi-finished products including rail, slab and hot rolled coil, domestic and overseas sales of magnetic steel sheet and tin plate, and offshore investment business. The division’s 60-70 staffs move to MBS and MBS’s employee number becomes 666.

Mitsui Corp established MBS in April 2008 to reinforce domestic sales. The steel division had handled international trade and MBS had operated domestic sales. Domestic dealers are recently expected to increase global trade mainly in Asia. Mitsui Corp decided to integrate domestic and overseas sales into MBS in order to builds up proposal power for new trade and service.
