Shin Nikkei to Stop Takaoka Plant in September 2011

Shin Nikkei Company, which is JS Group’s subsidiary to manufacture aluminium architectural products, announced on Friday the firm stops operation of Takaoka plant under Shin Nikkei Hokuriku Company, Shin Nikkei’s subsidiary, at the end of September 2011. Takaoka plant is located in Takaoka City of Toyama Prefecture, Japan. The operations will be transferred to Shin Nikkei’s other plants in Oyabe and Tateno of Toyama Prefecture as well as to JS Group’s plants. Shin Nikkei streamlines plants in Toyama and improves productivity.

Takaoka plant is a production site of aluminium extrusion profile with 424 employees. Takaoka plant supplies aluminium extrusion profile to Oyabe plant and Tateno plant where aluminium sashes and exteriors are manufactured for houses and buildings. Takaoka plant started operation in 1957. Productivity improvement is difficult with the old facilities.

Shin Nikkei and Shin Nikkei Hokuriku has examined optimizing plans to integrate procurement, distribution, product design and IT systems since the companies became JS Group’s subsidiaries in April 2010.
