Japan Stainless Scrap Export Drops by 38.4 % through July

Japanese stainless steel scrap export decreased by 38.4% to 97,224 tonnes in January-July from the same period of 2009, according to Ministry of Finance. The export increased by 18.5% to 73,633 tonnes to South Korea while the export decreased by 86.0% to 12,346 tonnes to China.

POSCO increased the scrap purchase price in South Korea when the firm plans full capacity stainless steel making operation in September. Japanese scrap exporters increase the scrap purchase and the export would increase to South Korea, according to a dealer source.
