Rebar Price to Increase in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar price would increase from 58,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment transaction from makers to users and 62,000 yen for dealers’ stock sales around Tokyo. Rebar makers aim to increase the selling price by 5,000 yen to 60,000 yen from the order in September.

The order receipt of rebar makers around Tokyo almost doubled to 200,000 tonnes in August from July and could increase more in September, according to a dealer source.

Japanese monthly rebar shipment including export was stable at around 700,000 tonnes in recent months, which was 1 million tonnes before global economy recession. However, the demand would not decrease from around 700,000 tonnes.

Rebar market price declined to 56,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment in August and lower price is less than 55,000 yen. The makers hope the market price increases to more than 60,000 yen.
