Lead Scrap Market Price Slightly Surges in Tokyo

Lead scrap market price slightly increased by 2 yen per kilogam around Tokyo when Mitsubishi Materials revised up its electrolytic lead selling price, the market indicator, by 7,000 yen to 238,000 yen per tonne. The market price became around 110-115 yen per kg for high grade lead scrap, 100-105 yen per kg for electrode plate scrap and 90-100 yen per kg for typographic lead scrap.

High grade lead scrap is main material for secondary lead ingot. Market demand for secondary lead ingot may weaken in October though the demand maintained steady from brass bar makers for several months. Meanwhile, the demand keeps stable from bob makers.

A secondary lead smelter around Tokyo said the demand condition keeps unchanged as total for secondary lead ingot and high grade lead scrap. The smelter also said they are willing to secure a certain volume of lead scrap when material inventory continues decreasing at most smelters.

Local secondary lead smelters pay 130-135 yen per kg for high grade lead scrap and some pay as high as 135-140 yen for a large lot. For typographic lead scrap, local lead alloy makers pay 120 yen or more.
