Tokyo Steel to Launch Square Steel Tube

Tokyo Steel Manufacturing launches steel square tube sales from October order. The firm started the production in March and acquired the certification of Japanese Industrial Standards on September 14. The firm aims to acquire certification for cold rolled square tube by ministry of land, infrastructure and transportation as early as in 2011.

Tokyo Steel introduced steel tube manufacturing facilities at Tahara plant and collected production data to acquire JIS. The firm makes the products with 7 sizes from 150 by 150 millimeters to 400 by 400 millimeters and with 4.5-22 mm thickness.

The firm set the square tube selling price at 78,000 yen per tonne, which is 15,000 yen higher than hot rolled coil price due to the production cost, for base size for October order. While the margin is limited at the price, the firm expects the business gets profitable if the production would get certain level of volume, said Mr. Naoto Ohori, managing director of the firm.
