Japan Carbon Steel Export Rises for 11 Consecutive Months

Japanese carbon steel export increased by 4.8% to 2.336 million tonnes in August from a year earlier, which increased for 11 months in a row, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Friday.

Japanese total steel export increased by 5.2% to 3.589 million tonnes including pig iron and ferroalloy in August from a year earlier, which increased for 13 months in a row. The export renewed the record as August for 2 years in a row topping 3.41 million tonnes in August 2009. The export increased by 7.6% from July.

The total steel export to South Korea increased by 1.6% to 936,000 tonnes in August from a year earlier, which increased for the first time in 2 months. The export increased by 49.3% to 439,000 tonnes to Thailand and 48.6% to 134,000 tonnes to USA. However, the export decreased by 2.7% to 607,000 tonnes to China and by 22.0% to 279,000 tonnes to Taiwan, both of which decreased for 2 months in a row.
