JFE Steel Signs Technical Cooperation with GMH for Special Steel Bar to Wind Electricity

JFE Steel announced on Thursday the firm signed a technical cooperation contract with Georgsmarienhuette GmbH (GMH) Holding, German special steel maker, to develop special steel bar for energy industry, mainly wind electricity. This is subsequent to previous technical cooperation for automotive special steel bar between the two companies. JFE Steel progresses collaborative works with GMH group companies to exchange technical information, advance collaborative R&D and offer licenses mutually for high performance special steel bar applied to new energy industry.

JFE Steel and GMH advance technical cooperation for 5 years. European wind power generator makers are expected to procure local components when they enter Asian market. JFE Steel aims to supply special steel bar to them with leverage of GMH’s technology. GMH mutually leverages JFE Steel’s technology. Steel demand for wind electricity is expected to increase along with global warming countermeasure. GMH has high technology of bearing products while operates several wind electricity business companies in the group.

JFE Steel and GMH entered into a partnership for automotive special steel bar and bearing in 2002 and enhanced the contract for additional 5 years in 2007. They have followed globalization of automobile industry through technological collaboration.
