Nisshin Steel Accelerates Rolling Mill Conversion in Kure and Shunan

Nisshin Steel accelerates conversion of rolling mills in Kure iron works and Shunan iron works in order to enhance global competitiveness by capacity expansion and quality improvement. The firm increases production volume of hot rolled coil by 5,900 tonnes per month at Kure iron works by conversion of no.2 hot rolling mill’s down coiler with 10.2 billion yen capital expenditure. In Shunan iron works, the firm increases rolling capacity by 10,000 tonnes per month to 40,000 tonnes by renewal of cold rolling tandem mill’s laser welding machine for stainless steel sheet.

Equipment conversion at Kure iron works will complete in November 2011. The firm aims to improve coiling accuracy and productive efficiency. In Shunan works, the firm improves productivity with new laser welding machine which enables high speed welding. The works’ cold rolling volume of stainless steel sheet is 60,000 tonnes per month, 30,000 tonnes of which is rolled by 3ZM tandem mill. 3ZM tandem mill’s production will increase by 10,000 tonnes to 40,000 tonnes per month. The renewal will complete in November 2012 with 5.7 billion yen investment.

Nisshin Steel also renews continuous pickling equipment and enhances cold rolling tandem mills in Sakai iron works with total 1.1 billion yen investment.
