Rebar Price Continues declining in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar price is inevitably to decrease from 60,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment from the makers to the users and 63,000 yen for inventory sales by the dealers around Tokyo. General contractors limit the purchase volume only for immediate use expecting the price decline. The users would increase the order in late August to secure rebar for construction schedule in and after autumn. The rebar makers try to realize profitable selling price even when ferrous scrap cost would increase.

Some transaction is less than 60,000 yen per tonne for the direct shipment under down trend market. General contractors order the rebar for only small lot for immediate delivery. The sellers including rebar fabricators get orders at lower price than the market level. A Tokyo based rebar fabricator source said they have to secure order to cover cost for manpower and fixed cost.

The demand is expected to increase after autumn. The dealers expect general contractors ordered limited volume since early May and should hold significant volume of order with expectation for lower price. The makers try to realize profitable price for late August and are cautious for decreasing price trend when ferrous scrap started to increase for some transaction around Tokyo bay.
