Yazaki Corporation Regains Yearly Profitability

Japanese major automobile component and electric cable maker, Yazaki Corporation posted 17.2 billion yen of net profit for domestic business in the year ended June 2010 while the firm posted 85.7 billion yen of loss in previous year. The profitability improved due to higher demand for automotive parts and cost cutting effort. However, the electric cable sales decreased for 2 years in a row while the sales of overseas subsidiaries, which produce wire harness, increased by 5.5% to 495 billion yen.

The sales for domestic business increased by 14% to 667.9 billion yen in the year ended June 2010 from previous year. The copper consumption decreased by around 5% to about 75,600 tonnes, which decreased for 2 straight years while the consumption was about 102,100 tonnes in the year ended June 2008. The recurring profit was 20.1 billion yen in the year ended June 2010 while the firm posted 14.9 billion yen of loss in previous year.

The sales of domestic automobile component business increased by 19.8% to 579.1 billion yen in the year ended June 2010 from previous year.

The electric cable sales decreased by 17.8% to 53 billion yen in year ended June 2010 from previous year due to slowdown in domestic market. The firm restructures the business to improve the profitability under the slow demand.
