JFE Engineering Develops New Separation and Recovery Technology of CO2

JFE Engineering announced on Thursday the firm developed separation and recovery technology of CO2, Neo White Hydrate measure, at normal temperature and pressure for the first time in the world. The technology can reduce separation and recovery cost of CO2 by 50% or about 2,500 yen per tonne compared with existing technologies. The firm conducts a verification test by large size equipment, which aims accomplishment of CO2 separation and recovery plant which has disposal capacity at 300,000-1 million tones per year, from combustion gas of heat power plant or steel plant.

The firm changes CO2 to fine bubble, blends it with water, adds, heat storage medium, Neo White which was developed with Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in normal pressure at 1.1 atmosphere and temperature at 18℃, and confirmed to be able to be hydrate of CO2 by test plant in the firm’s Tsurumi works.

The firm aims to mull commercial viability after verification test at 2 times. The Ministry aims to decrease separation and recovery cost of CO2 to over 1,000 yen per tonne. The firm aims to more decrease the cost.
