Maruichi Steel Tube to Increase Pipe Price by 5,000 yen/t

Japanese major steel tubular maker, Maruichi Steel Tube announced on Wednesday the firm increases the selling price of steel tube for construction including steel column, structural steel tube for general construction purpose by 5,000 yen per tonne from February 1 shipment. While the decline in Maruichi Steel Tube’s selling price, hot rolled coil price is increasing. The firm aims to increase the selling price and return profitability.

Japanese tube market price is decreasing when domestic electric furnace makers reduced the price and offshore market price also decreased in second half of 2010. The price of tube for construction significantly decreased and Maruichi Steel Tube is loosing the money at the price level.

Maruichi Steel Tube increases the selling price when steel makers in home and offshore plan to increase hot rolled coil price. The selling price of domestic electric furnaces and overseas tube makers is also likely to stop decreasing. Maruichi Steel Tube indicates additional price hike to improve the profitability after February.
