Yodogawa Steel Works Provides CGL and CCL to Uganda

Osaka based steel maker, Yodogawa Steel Works announced on Friday the firm agreed with Ugandan steel maker, Roofings Rolling Mills (RRM), in order acceptance for a continuous galvanizing line (CGL) and a continuous coating line (CCL) as well as technical support provision for RRM. The CGL and CCL will start operation in July 2012. Yodogawa Steel Works also considers share acquisition in RRM.

RRM was established by Uganda’s building material maker, Roofings, in 2009. RRM is located in an industrial estate of Kampala, Uganda. The capital fund is approximately 2.8 billion yen.

Yodogawa Steel Works has supplied galvanized steel sheet and colored steel sheet to Roofings so far. Now Roofings plans to start local production of steel sheet and steel bar by establishment of RRM. Roofings asked Yodogawa Steel Works to sell CGL and CCL as well as to provide technical support for steel sheet production.

The ordered CGL is non-oxidizing furnace type with output capacity at 150,000 tonnes per year and maximum lining speed at 180 meters per minute. The ordered CCL is 2-coat 2-bake type with output capacity at 50,000 tonnes per year and maximum lining speed at 80 meters per minute.

Yodogawa Steel Works assists these equipments’ introduction and operation while helps operation of other steel sheet facilities. RRM will sell galvanized steel sheet at 60,000 tonnes per year and colored steel sheet at 40,000 tonnes per year.

Moreover, Yodogawa Steel Works examines to acquire up to 10% shares in RRM as an important step to cultivate African steel market.
