JFE Steel’s High Tensile Steel Sheet Adopted to Suzuki’s Mini Vehicle

JFE Steel announced on Thursday its high tensile cold rolled steel sheet, named UNI HITEN, is adopted to door panel of Suzuki Motor’s newly modeled mini vehicle MR Wagon. UNI HITEN was developed for automobile body exposed panel which shows 440MPa grade tensile strength. This is the first adoption of 440MPa grade high tensile cold rolled steel sheet for automotive door panel in Japan.

To thinner automobile body outer door panels, high dent resistance and stretch formability are required. UNI HITEN represents higher tensile strength than 340MPa grade BH (bake hardening) steel sheet, which is used in large amounts for automobile body panels, by dispersion control of martensite inside ferrite structure of low carbon steel. Weight of automotive door panel is generally 15-20 kilogram while UNI HITEN realized weight reduction by 1.1 kg for new model MR Wagon.

JFE Steel produces UNI HITEN in Fukuyama area of West Japan Iron Works. The firm establishes commercial output system for UNI HITEN and to increase UNI HITEN adoption to automotive door, food and roof.
