Nippon Steel Plans 40 Days Plate Mill Repair at Kimitsu

Nippon Steel launches large-scale rolling mill renewal at plate mill in Kimitsu works for more than 40 days from June. The firm replaces housing of roughing mill and motor of finishing mill. The firm keeps the supply through the across the board effort while the outage at the mill with around 180,000 tonnes per month would reduce the output.

The plate demand is firm for shipbuilding, construction machinery and energy industry at home and abroad. The supply remains tight mainly for high grade product due to the strong demand. Nippon Steel operates the plate mills at full capacity.

The demand is expected to stay strong. The firm tries to minimize the impact on plate supply during the outage by utilizing capacity at plate mills of Nagoya and Oita works while the firm also asks the users’ early order entry.
