Sumitomo Corp to Raise Steel Sheet Processing Capacity in Indonesia

Sumitomo Corporation, Japanese major general trading house, decided to introduce an additional coil blanking line at Super Steel Karawang in Indonesia, the firm’s consolidated subsidiary to process steel sheet, to meet increasing demand from automobile industry. Super Steel Karawang will operate 2 blanking lines at the end of 2011 and double the processing capacity. The capex will total approximately 1.5 billion yen.

Sumitomo Corp plans to construct a new plant in Karawang Prefecture of Java Province and to introduce a new blanking line to process large size steel sheet for automobiles. Super Steel Karawang supplies blanked steel sheet to automobile makers from the existing plant in Chikarang Prefecture of Bekasi Province.

Super Steel Karawang was established in 1998. The company has a slitter and a leveler in Karawang plant and a blanking line, a slitter and a leveler in Chikarang plant. Total shipment is currently 20,000-25,000 tonnes per month.
