Nuclear Threat Stops Furukawa Denshi’s Plant

Furukawa group’s core subsidiary, Furukawa Denshi has suspended operation of headquarters plant in Fukushima due to avoid potential influence from accident at Fukushima nuclear power plant. The semiconductor material plant has no severe damage on the facilities from the major earthquake. However, the plant stops the operation when the employees cannot access to the plant due to the government’s advice for residents in 30 kilometers from the power plant to stay indoor while the semiconductor material plant is located in more than 30 km away from the power plant.

Furukawa Denshi is world largest high purity metallic arsenic maker with 55% of market share at end of 2009. The firm provides the metal as material of gallium arsenide semiconductor, which is used for light-emitting diode, electronic device of mobile appliance and laser diode of optical pickup.
