Hitachi Cable’s Operation Resume Depends Utility, Energy

Hitachi Cable announced on Tuesday the firm has no immediate plan to resume operation of submarine cable producing Minato plant in Hitachi and rolled copper making Tsuchiura plant after the firm stopped operation after major earthquake. The firm also has no plan to restart shipment from other 4 plants in Hitachi due to pending safety check in stock yard and transport fuel shortage while the firm expects the 4 plants can restart production gradually.

The firm tries to check the damage on the facilities and machines at 6 plants. The firm cannot check the safety at Minato plant with crack in the land when authority prohibits entrance to the danger area. The firm cannot open rolled copper production at Tsuchiura plant due to unstable power supply under controlled blackout while the plant expects resumption of power and water supply.

The firm will restart operation at other 4 plants in Hitachi when the firm completes safety check and the power supply gets available. However, the firm cannot resume the shipment due to shortage of gasoline and diesel oil for transport.
