JFE Bars & Shapes Requires Alternate Supply to Other Steel Makers

JFE Bars & Shapes has required alternate supply of special steel bar and wire rod to other domestic integrated steel makers and special steel makers since Sendai works, JFE Bars & Shapes’ special steel plant, was downed by Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake. The firm is being able to cover 70% production of Sendai works by other steel makers’ backups. JFE Steel, the controlling company of JFE Bars & Shapes, other integrated steel makers and special steel makers have accepted backup production readily. Meanwhile, other steel makers’ capacities are limited and steel users’ approvals for alternate supply are needed. JFE Bars & Shapes continues close talks with both steel makers and steel users to cover rest 30% supply.

Sendai works mainly produced special steel bar and wire rod at about 80,000 tonnes per month until February. It is unforeseeable when the plant can restore the operation. JFE Bars & Shapes basically requires alternate supply to steel makers those who supply special steel products to same users such as automobile, construction machine and industrial machine makers. JFE Bars & Shapes is talking with Nippon Steel, Kobe Steel, Daido Steel, Aichi Steel, Sanyo Special Steel, Mitsubishi Steel, Nakayama Steel Works, Godo Steel and Asahi Industries Group.

Sendai Works had supplied more than 8,000 items to about 300 companies, including export at 25,000-30,000 tonnes.
