Asahi Seiren’s Ibaraki Factory Keeps High Production of RSI

Japanese major secondary aluminium alloy maker, Asahi Seiren’s Ibaraki factory, located in Bando City of Ibaraki Prefecture of Japan, could keep high level operation in May. The factory’s output is estimated to total 3,500 tonnes in April while 3,200-3,300 tonnes of output is expected to continue in May. Market demand is decreasing for AD12.1 grade die casting alloy and casting alloy when domestic car makers are lowering their plant operations. Meanwhile, Asahi Seiren’s order receipts are increasing for RSI (re-melted aluminium can scrap ingot).

RSI would account for approximately 60% in Ibaraki factory’s monthly output in April though the ratio was normally 50% so far. After Japan Earthquake, the firm’s order receipts are decreasing for secondary aluminium alloy for automotive applications while increasing for RSI. Japanese aluminium re-rollers, the main users of RSI, are increasing aluminium can material production before TEPCO’s power supply control planned in summer.

Ibaraki factory would decrease production of AD12.1 grade alloy and other automotive alloys slightly in May from April. However, the factory could keep high operation with increasing orders for RSI.
