JFE Steel Starts New Cold Mill for Automotive Sheet in China

JFE Steel starts a new cold rolling mill in Guangzhou JFE Steel Sheet Company (GJSS), JFE Steel’s subsidiary and hot dipped zinc coated steel sheet maker in China, in May. The cold rolling mill is now under test operation while scheduled to enter commercial production in July. GJSS will also start a new continuous annealing line (CAL) in June and no.2 continuous galvanizing line (CGL) within this year.

JFE Steel expects automotive industry’s demand for high quality steel sheet increases in China in mid-long term. JFE Steel builds up local supply system of automotive steel sheet for the users in China.

GJSS introduced a continuous pickling and cold rolling mill with capacity at 1.8 million tonnes per year as well as a CAL with 1-million-tonne annual output capacity and a CGL with 400,000-tonne output capacity. The CAL will start commercial production in August. These productive facilities were supplied by Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery.

GJSS was established jointly by JFE Steel and Guangzhou Steel. GJSS started no.1 hot dip galvanizing line with output capacity at 400,000 tonnes per year in 2006. The line currently continues full operation.
