JFE Steel Gets 21,000t 13Cr Seamless Pipe Order for Pipeline

JFE Steel announced on Monday the firm and Marubeni-Itochu Steel got 21,000 tonnes of 13% chrome seamless pipe order for line pipe from In Salah Gas joint venture of Algeria. The order represents the largest volume order for 13% chrome products for JFE Steel while the former largest order was around 3,000 tonnes.

They already shipped 2,300 tonnes of the pipe. They will provide pipe with 168.3-406.4 millimeters of outer diameter for around 2 years.

In Salah Gas joint venture, in which Sonatrach has 35% share with 31.85% share by Statoil and 33.15% share by BP. The joint venture develops the world second largest gas development project, In Salah Gas project in southern Algeria. The project is to develop 3 gas fields located in 1,200 kilometers south of Alger and started the production in 2004.

JFE Steel provides the pipe for pipeline from existing gas fields to newly developed 4 gas fields. The project is to construct 350 km of pipeline, of which JFE Steel provides the pipe for the 190 km part.

JFE Steel got the order due to the experience to ship high grade pipe used in severe condition and the credibility for the high grade products. JFE Steel produced around 6,000 tonnes of 13% chrome seamless pipe at the peak in fiscal 2005 ended March 2006.
