Iron Recycling Reserch Forecasts Japan Ferrous Scrap Export Decreases in 2011

Mr. Seiichi Hayashi, president of Iron Recycling Research which is Japanese major research company for ferrous scrap market, released the latest market report. Mr. Hayashi analyzed Japanese ferrous scrap generation and demand are expected to recover in 2011 while supply and demand would continue not balanced. He forecasted Japanese ferrous scrap export may decrease to around 5.5 million tonnes in 2011 if Tokyo Steel Manufacturing, Japanese largest electric furnace steel maker, increases output of Tahara iron works and Japanese integrated steel makers increases scrap procurement from domestic market.

Mr. Hayashi analyzed Japanese ferrous scrap export decreased to about 6.47 million tonnes in 2010 since domestic steel output recovered while scrap generation didn’t increase as much as domestic demand rebound. He made a point that ferrous scrap market price in 2011 is likely to represent strong trend, led by the world largest scrap exporter, the U.S.A. Japanese scrap market is affected by global market trend, especially by the U.S.A. linking to East Asian and Turkey scrap markets.
