Midrex Technologies Accepts Reduced Iron Plant Order from JSW Steel

Midrex Technologies, Kobe Steel’s 100% subsidiary in the U.S.A., announced on Wednesday the firm accepted an order of a direct reduced iron plant with output capacity at 1.2 million tonnes per year from JSW Steel, Indian major steel maker. Midrex Technologies accepted the order cooperatively with Siemens VAI and other partners. JSW Steel will also introduce a new system to supply hot reduced iron to electric furnace utilizing the existent collex plant’s gas. The order value seems 200-300 million euro. Midrex system plant will start operation in JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar iron works in mid 2013.

The plant will produce high- and normal-temperature reduced iron with a shaft furnace of 7.15 meters diameter. Midrex The plant will also introduce hot transport system (HTS), developed by Midrex Technologies and Siemens VAI and adopted by Hadeed Steel in Saudi Arabia. JSW Steel will introduce HTS based collex gas system for the first time in the world.
