Furukawa Battery Prepares for Industrial Lead Battery Supply for Jul-Sep

Furukawa Battery, Furukawa Electric Group’s battery maker, plans to keep full production of industrial lead battery this summer. The demand is expected to maintain strong for backup power sources. The firm currently introduced a private electric power generator at Imaichi plant in Tochigi, Japan to prepare for electric power supply shortage forecasted this summer. The firm also plans extra operation on Saturdays in order to keep the output volume for July-September.

Industrial lead batteries are used mainly as backup power sources in power outage. The demand has increased for mobile communication base stations in recent years. Imaichi plant continues full production of large-size industrial lead battery at approximately 430 tonnes per month in lead volume with the current staff number since early 2011.

There were several emergent orders after Japan Earthquake on March 11, used for power companies’ data centers or transportation infrastructures. The emergent orders currently settled down while there are some large-lot order quotations at present such for telecom base stations in disaster areas. The demand is expected to keep stable for a while.

Imaichi plant is located in TEPCO’s service area. Then the plant introduced 500kW private power generator preparing for electric power supply shortage for July-September. This power generator can cover 9% of Imaichi plant’s electric power consumption. The plant also plans extra operations on Saturdays to keep full supply of industrial lead battery since the plant would stop pperation of production lines by rotation.
