Toyotsu Smelting Technology Corporation, Japanese major aluminium melt maker and Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s subsidiary, revealed its aluminium melt production is presently recovering to around 70% of the pre-disaster level in volume. The demand is improving along car makers’ plant restarts. However, the firm is concerned the output volume may decrease again after Japanese long holidays in early May.

Toyotsu Smelting Technology was established on April 1, 2011 by integration of Toyota Tsusho’s three aluminium melt business companies in Japan. The output capacity is approximately 9,000 tonnes per month including ingot.

The company’s production was approximately 6,000 tonnes per month before Japan Earthquake while almost halved after the disaster. Then the firm suspended one furnace of two furnaces of plant in Aichi and four furnaces of seven furnaces of plants in Fukuoka. One furnace also stopped in plant of Hokkaido just after the earthquake but the operation restarted in a short term.

Toyotsu Smelting Technology’s aluminium melt production has recovered to 70% of the pre-disaster level since late April. Meanwhile, Mr. Kazuo Oikawa, the company’s president, indicated the production might decline to 50% or less level after the long holidays in early May if aluminium melt users’ operations maintains slow.
