Nisshin Steel Drops Tool Steel Production Share in F2010

Japan’s largest tool steel maker, Nissin Steel dropped production share of Japanese tool steel production in fiscal 2010 ended March 2011 from fiscal 2009 while JFE Steel raised the share. Japanese top 5 makers kept the positions in the production ranking. The production increased by 74.8% to 268,456 tonnes. The production recovered to 94% of the peak in fiscal 2007 after the production hit 10 years bottom at 153,577 tonnes in fiscal 2009.

Japanese tool steel production increased by 68.4% to 143,776 tonnes for carbon tool steel in fiscal 2010 from fiscal 2009. The production increased by 81.6% to 110,680 tonnes for alloy tool steel and by 94.6% to 13,938 tonnes for high speed tool steel.

Nisshin Steel dropped the production share by 3.4 percentage points to 31.1% of Japanese tool production in fiscal 2010 from fiscal 2009 while the firm’s production increased by 57.7% to 83,485 tonnes. JFE Steel raised the share by 2.8 points to 24.4% while the production increased by 97.6% to 65,510 tonnes.
