Japan Construction Galvanized Steel Export Slows

Japanese construction galvanized steel export transaction of re-rollers slows under higher yen rate. The re-rollers’ offer price is US$ 1,100 for galvanized steel and US$ 1,150 for galvalume. Despite the few inquiries, the re-rollers would not reduce the price while the makers see export volume remains at low level under higher yen rate.

Chinese steel makers’ export offer price is US$ 700-800 per tonne for galvanized steel. The makers are increasing export for Southeast Asia due to oversupply in domestic market. Japanese galvalume import price is slightly more than 90,000 yen, which is 30,000 yen lower than domestic market price, according to Japanese trading firm source. The cheaper import price impacts on Japanese market under slow demand especially for thick galvalume demand.

Japanese re-rollers have tried to increase galvanized steel export since fiscal 2010 started April 2010. However, the export volume is lower than originally planned due to higher yen rate. The re-rollers try to keep and expand shipment for renovation for domestic buildings constructed by early 1970s.
