Japan Stainless Steel Export Decreases by 5.1% in May

Japanese stainless steel export decreased by 5.1% to 101,659 tonnes including long, flat and tube products in May from April, according to Japan Stainless Steel Association. The export decreased for 2 consecutive months when tehexport for flat products largely decreased. The export decreased by 3.7% to 10,030 tonnes for long products, bar, shaped steel and wire rod, which decreased by 5.3% to 74,027 tonnes for flat products. The export decreased by 5.1% for tube products, seamless and welded steel tube.

The export decreased by 7.7% to 37,105 tonnes for hot rolled steel sheet in May from April, 2.7% to 36,923 tonnes for cold rolled steel sheet. These exports are downturn trend when the supply and demand is becoming loose in Asia due to higher yen rate.

The amount of the export was 4,239 tonnes for bar, 125 tonnes for shaped steel, 5,666 tonnes for wire rod, 17,013 tonnes for seamless steel tube and 588 tonnes for welded steel tube.
