Nippon Steel’s Kamaishi Iron Works Enhances Production System of High Quality Wore Rod

Kamaishi iron works of Nippon Steel continues enhances of production system by improvement of competition power for wire rod for cold header and steel code. The works aims to increase range of application to 50% of endless rolling technology which continuously welds with billet on rolling process, and improves competition power. The works sets re-construction of supply chain for automobile industry made impact by disaster of earth quake as engine for reconstruction from disaster, and will improve response capabilities of steel products supply based technology.

The works’ production ratio is around 60% for high end products such as wire rod for cold header used to bolt and nut for automobile, and wire rod for steel code for tier. The works will continue to investment of research and development, and will increase response capabilities for supply with demand movement.

The works will follow up quality, and will continue develop high strength and tensile steel sheet, thin wire rod.

In North Japan, component manufactures for automobile were made impact by disaster. When automobile output decreased, the works’ output decreased.

。The works started mixed combustion in coal thermal electric power plant from October 2010, closed operation by disaster from March 2011, while re-started operation from July 11. The electric power plant can reduce emit CO2 down by 7,000 tonnes per year by mixed combustion.
