Showa Denko to Increase Battery Materials Capacity

Showa Denko announced on Tuesday the firm increases production capacity of aluminum laminated film for packaging of lithium-ion rechargeable battery to 1.5 times within 2011. The firm triples capacity of artificial-graphite-based anode material, SCMG to 3,000 tonnes per year and doubles capacity of additive in anodes and cathodes, VGCF within September 2012. The firm increases the capacity with around 3 billion yen to meet growing battery demand for laptop, cellular phone and automobile.

Showa Denko increases dry aluminum laminator at its production subsidiary, Showa Denko Packaging’s Hikone plant in Shiga. The film is mainly used for battery for mobile appliance due to its lighter weight and better heat dissipation.

Showa Denko tries to increase sales of 4 lithium-ion battery materials including carbon-coated aluminum foil, SDX to more than 30 billion yen per year within 2015 from current slightly less than 10 billion yen.
