Changzhou Jinyuan Copper Increases Wire Capacity to 30,000 tonnes

Changzhou Jinyuan Copper, Chinese joint copper wire maker invested by JX Nippon Mining & Metals, plans to increase wire drawing capacity to 30,000 tonnes per year from 18,000 tonnes in 2012. The firm draws copper wire to 1.13-3.5 millimeters diameter from 8 millimeters and supplies to Chinese winding wire maker as material of electric conductor. The firm expands downstream operation because the firm constructed copper wire factory on May 2010 and increased the production capacity to 300,000 tonnes per year.

The firm has one drawing machine by SAMP, Italian drawing machine maker, and draws copper wire to 2.6 millimeters diameter. The firm but will draw 2 copper wires at once by refinement of annealing furnace in 2012 while the firm currently draws one copper wire. The firm increases coiler of finished copper wire to 4 machines from 3 machines.

The firm commissioned operation of continuous casting and rolling equipment by Southwire, US wire drawing machinery, in May 2010 and increased drawing capacity with 8 millimeters diameter to 300,000 tonnes per year from 180,000 tonnes. The amount of the production was 221,000 tonnes for copper wire with 8 millimeters diameter in 2010 and 134,500 tonnes in the first half of 2011.

The firm sells all copper wire products with 8 and 2.6 millimeters diameter to domestic market, of which 60-70% for winding wire, 20-25% for power cable and rest for communication cable. The firm focuses on supply high quality products when users require high quality conductor material for winding wire for motor.

Chinese copper wire makers are increasing installation of overseas drawing machine of Southwire or Contirod in recent years. Changzhou Jinyuan Copper estimates domestic production capacity of copper wire increases to 5.2 million tonnes in 2012 from 2 million tonnes in 2008. The firm tries improvement of quality to win severe competition.
