Japan 2 Titanium Major Post Better Results in April-June

Japanese major 2 sponge titanium makers posted better results for April-June under better demand condition. Osaka Titanium Technologies posted first operating profit in 6 quarters. Toho Titanium posted lower loss than same period of 2010. and the titanium unit posted 105 million yen of operating profit compared with 1.065 billion yen of loss in same period of 2010. However, the makers kept the full year results outlook under uncertainty in the second half year through March 2012.

Titanium demand increased for airplane for existing models and new model of Boeing 787. The demand also increased for power plant, industrial plant and seawater desalination plant in emerging countries.

Osaka Titanium Technologies accelerated the expansion to meet the higher demand. Toho Titanium also announced the firm expands the ingot capacity from annual 10,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes at Yahata plant.

They also enjoyed higher demand for other business than titanium. Osaka Titanium Technologies reported higher sales of polycrystalline silicon when the firm launched Kishiwada plant in April and finished expansion from annual 900 tonnes to 1,400 tonnes at Amagasaki plant. Toho Titanium also increased the sales of ultra fine nickel powder and high purity titanium.
