Japan Carbon Steel Wire Products Import Hits Record in April-June

Japanese carbon steel wire products import increased by 25.4% to record 52,033 tonnes in April-June from same period of 2010, according to Japan Wire Products Association. The import hit the monthly record for 3 months in a row through May. The import was 16,626 tonnes in June, which decreased from May. However, the import was slightly higher than April. The import remained high due to yen appreciation and higher inventory building demand after the major earth quake in March.

The carbon steel wire products import increased by 68.9% to 7,384 tonnes for steel wire in April-June from same period of 2010. The import increased by 22.4% to 15,367 tonnes for galvanized wire. The import decreased by 40.2% to 478 tonnes for other plated wire. The import increased by 35.9% to 197 tonnes for barbed wire and by 16.3% to 24,704 tonnes for wire nail. The import increased to 2.4 times at 1,877 tonnes for welded wire mesh and the import increased by 26.9% to 2,026 tonnes for wire netting.
