Summit Showa Aluminum Raises Secondary Al Alloy Output for Automobiles

Osaka based major secondary aluminium alloy maker, Summit Showa Aluminum has recovered secondary aluminium alloy production volume to the pre-disaster level. The production volume temporarily halved compared with the ordinary level after Japan Earthquake. In July, the output volume represented 95% of a year earlier level. Shiga plant is now under full capacity operation.

Summit Showa Aluminum’s production volume of secondary aluminium alloy dropped by 40-50% year-on-year for April-May since Japanese automakers reduced the car productions. The demand rebounded in June and almost recovered the level in July as high as a year earlier. The alloy production is likely to increase more and represent year-on-year plus for August-September along car makers’ output increase.

Summit Showa Aluminum presently produces secondary aluminium alloy at four plants in Shiga, Ibaraki, Chiba and Aichi Prefectures, Japan. The total output is currently 11,000 tonnes per month.
