Tokyo’s Rebar Makers to Seek Higher Selling Price in Autumn

Concrete reinforcing steel bar market price is flat at around 61,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment from the makers to the users and 67,000 yen for sales from the dealers’ inventory around Tokyo. The price would keep the level immediately while the suppliers expect higher price later the year.

Rebar makers around Tokyo try to increase the selling price to 65,000 yen per tonne for direct shipment. However, the market is very slow before Japanese holidays in mid-August. The makers expect the higher selling price in and after autumn when the makers’ order receipt was 211,000 tonnes in July while the order was around 150,000 tonnes per month through June.

The makers try to increase the selling price when some makers lose the money at around 60,000 yen per tonne of current selling price against around 35,000 yen of ferrous scrap cost.
