World Next-Gen Passenger Car Shipment Forecasted at 32.1 Million in 2025

Global shipment of next-generation passenger cars, including hybrid vehicle (HV), electric vehicle (EV), plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHV) and fuel cell vehicle (FCV), is forecasted to total 32.1 million vehicles in 2025, which expands from 900,000 vehicles in 2010, according to a market research by Fuji-Keizai, Japanese market researcher. The shipment of related infrastructure equipments such as power charger is forecasted to total 290.1 billion yen in 2025, increasing by 13.4 times from 2010. The shipment of key components such as battery, motor and other automotive parts would total 14.5776 trillion yen in 2025, expanding by 34.5 times from 2010.

Global HV shipment is forecasted at 13.66 million in 2025. PHV shipment is expected at 11.48 million and EV at 5.75 million. Shipment value of normal-speed power charger for EV is estimated at 98.5 billion yen while quick charger is estimated at 51.6 billion yen. Among on-vehicle components, shipment value of lithium ion secondary battery is expected to total 8.5 trillion yen while nickel-metal hydride battery at 270 billion yen.
