Sumitomo Electric Develops New CBN Material

Sumitomo Electric Industries announced on Tuesday the firm launches new cubic boron nitride, Sumiboron BN7000 with world highest level CBN content on July 20. The firm provides total 136 items to serve cutting process of cast iron and sinter alloy. The firm eyes 300 million yen of sales in fiscal 2011 ending in March 2012 and 1 billion yen in 3 years.

Sumitomo Electric Industries succeeded to develop the new material by increasing sinter pressure to more than traditional 50,000 times of air pressure. The firm increases the CBN density to make the sinter with higher CBN content and with lower binder.

The new CBN product with high heat conductivity can reduce crack during high speed cast iron cutting process even at more than 1,500 meters per minute. The new CBN enables 1.5 times longer tool life when the material is used with the firm’s cutter for high speed cast iron finishing.
