Kashima Kyodo Electric Power Restarts No.4 Electric Power Generator

Kashima Kyodo Electric Power, a joint company between Tokyo Electric Power Corporation (TEPCO) and Sumitomo Metal Industries, restarts operation of no.4 electric power generator in late July, which has downed since Japan Earthquake. Electric power is generated by mixed combustion of byproducts gases of Sumitomo Metals’ Kashima iron works and low sulfur heavy oil. TEPCO and Sumitomo Metals use generated electric power on halves.

Kashima Kyodo Electric Power has 4 power generators with each capacity at 350,000 kW. No.2 generator is under regular maintenance while other three generators are on work. After the earthquake disaster, all generators stopped operations. No.1 and no.3 generators restarted operation on April 16 and June 7. No.4 generator entered regular maintenance before the disaster and was scheduled to return to work within June. The JV will start full operation at total 1050,000 kW after recovery of no.4 generator.

Sumitomo Metals’ electric power plant restarted operation on March 25 and continues full operation at maximum 507,000 kW after the end of May.
