NSSC to Delay BA Restart at Kashima for 2 Months

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Steel Corporation announced on Tuesday the firm delays restart of commercial operation of bright annealing line at Kashima plant for 2 months to the end of September. The major earth quake damaged line would restart the operation at the end of July as scheduled. However, the plant delays the commercial operation to follow power consumption saving due to lower power generation around Tokyo. NSSC shifts the operation at Kashima plant to Hikari plant. The firm plans to make some products including emboss products, which are only made at Kashima, to operate the bright annealing line in holidays.

NSSC’s plant operates some facilities at night and reduces the power consumption by around 20% in the day time in this summer.

NSSC restarted the facilities at Kashima plant other than bright annealing line by April 17 and restarted integrated operation. The firm also restarted No.2 Sendzimir mill and No.1 bright annealing line at Hikari plant by the same day to accept output from Kashima.
