Japan Steel Industry Invests More in Indonesia

Japanese steel players increase investment in Indonesia. Japanese steel makers and trading companies try to follow growing steel demand in Indonesia when the local transplants of Japanese manufacturers increase production of motorcycle, automobile and appliances and the infrastructure building consumes more steel. Japanese steel players would increase the investment in Indonesia when the mineral rich country will grow steadily.

JFE Steel decided to expand galvanizing steel making capacity at Indonesian joint venture to serve local construction market. Marubeni-Itochu Steel builds construction machinery cabin making plant with Press Kogyo for around US$ 20 million. JFE Shoji Trade adds large slitter at local steel processing plant to expand the processing capacity. Marubeni-Itochu Steel invests in tailored welded blank facility at local plant.

Nippon Steel completed second plant of PT. Indonesia Nippon Steel Pipe to increase supply of automotive steel pipe while Nippon Steel has tinplate making operation through local company. Kobe Steel runs upgraded brown coal demonstration plant in the country.
