Tariff on Metals Lifts China Al Alloy Export Price

Chinese government ordered detailed export declaration on metallic silicon in secondary aluminium alloy made by Chinese makers, according to Japanese trading companies. A trading firm source said Chinese makers increase the export offer by adding 15% tariff on metallic silicon recently.

Chinese secondary alloyed aluminium makers with processing trade license can export the products without tariff when they export same level of volume as imported aluminium scrap.

However, they have to report the additives to customs. They have to report Chinese made metallic silicon contained in AD12.1 alloy while they don’t have to report copper content in the alloy if the copper is from imported raw materials. Chinese major alloy makers reported the alloy content to customs while small sized makers fail to report the detail, according to Japanese sources.

AD12.1 alloy contains 6.5-7% metallic silicon. The tariff would lift the alloy offer by US$ 20-25 per tonne. A trader said a Chinese maker notified the maker will add the tariff of metallic silicon and primary aluminium ingot on the export offer. With severer clearance by Chinese government, the alloy export price increases recently.
